When it seems that all is lost, and you have no hope, Misplaced Loyalty can be fatal.
Detective Patsy Hodge leaves her old life behind, and transfers to Bristol and a new job with the CID. Wanting to make her mark as a female detective she attends a suspicious death with her new boss; straight talking, no nonsense Detective Inspector John Meredith. Within days the body count begins to rise, as victims old and new are discovered to have died in the same way. Some could say the victims were merely party to assisted suicide, others may call it euthanasia, and many believe that either way it shouldn’t be classed as a crime; but when it becomes evident that some of the victims were forced to accept a lethal injection, DI Meredith launches a major murder investigation which covers a period of over twenty years.
As more victims are discovered, and the investigation gathers pace, someone takes an unhealthy interest in Patsy. Their motive moves from irritating to sinister when her life is threatened. But just how serious is that threat? Despite being surrounded by police officers the case takes precedent, and Patsy even considers using the services of a private detective, who just happens to be friend and former boss of John Meredith. It’s far from clear if this development is connected to the case, Meredith, or perhaps both. With ill feeling developing within the team, the motives of colleagues working on the case are brought into question.

TAKE THE LUCK OUT OF FINDING THAT “GREAT READ”
Common to readers of both fiction and nonfiction is the rarity of finding that elusive “great read” that keeps you spellbound for hours. Be it fiction or nonfiction, luck usually plays a role in finding that extraordinary work. Now you can take the luck out of finding the best novels and nonfiction with this continuously updated book guide, which is crafted to steer you to ones that “hit the mark” every time.
It covers 116 literary genres—in fiction and nonfiction—with a range as broad as American history and time travel to self-help and zombies. Selections include not only the classics and the best sellers, but also lesser known genre fiction and the leading nonfiction penned by the top authors in almost every major field.
FICTION and NONFICTION
There are two general categories among our recommended reading: nonfiction and fiction, which are covered in this book reference with over 100,000-words of informative text. (Please see the sample pages found in the “Look Inside” feature on our Amazon page for a list of the over 100 fiction and nonfiction genres, encompassing over 1,000 titles.)
NONFICTION: There is a reason that so much of the suggested readings in this category are either best-selling works or the “classical treatments” of a particular subject: the marketplace and the experts are notorious for picking the leading volumes in the information world. It is, after all, the foremost professionals in the field that usually write them, and buy them. They usually possess some special knowledge in choosing the most reliable information sources in their areas of expertise, which means you have one of the most respected voices in each nonfiction genre we cover.
FICTION: Big sales are not the only gauge of worth, though our reading recommendations don’t ignore the best-selling works either; rather we look for authors with a knack for story-telling as well as those that have perfected a particular writing style.
PERFECT FICTION is not just every great novelist’s goal; it was also the goal in selecting inclusions in this guidebook to books. An experienced team of literary professionals chose works that meet three important criteria found in only the top novels:
1. A story so good you don’t want it to end
2. Unforgettable characters
3. Writing that hooks you in the first paragraph
A TEAM OF EXPERIENCED LITERARY PROFESSIONALS
Selections in this book guide are penned by professionals in literature: publishers, editors, authors, scholars and critics that point you to the leading fiction and nonfiction by the best writers. Each fiction genre provides an average of a dozen choices — making it much more likely that you’ll find your next “great read.” This convenient handbook on literature also includes selected excerpts, and online access to each recommendation with a simple tap of your finger, so you can either buy it or just learn more. No other literary guide has so much.
CLASSICS AND BEST SELLERS TO THE NEWEST TOP AUTHORS
Included are the time-honored works of Jane Austen, Leo Tolstoy, Mark Twain, and other great novelists that even some bookworms neglect to read. The newer leading authors in fiction such as Michael Chabon, Louise Erdrich, and Junot, Diaz are also here to be discovered.
Among the nonfiction recommendations is a stellar list of experts in their fields, including the likes of Dian Fosey and Jane Goodall on animal behavior; Will Durant on civilization; Winston Churchill on World War II; Jon Krakauer on religious extremism; Stephen Sondheim on songwriting, and other leading authorities. Get the most acclaimed, established authors and the newest ones too, in both fiction and nonfiction.
