Cliff House itself was beautiful, a low, rambling building that faced west. After luncheon they walked down to Seal Rock, which was close to the hotel. The sun broke through the clouds, bringing a delicious warmth.
“Let’s rest here a moment.” Jed led Lily onto a wide, shady piazza with chairs for lounging. It gave a perfect view to watch the lazy seals basking in the sun on top of the large rocks.
“Watch that one.” He pointed to a seal that sneakily sidled up to a sleeping one and barked loudly next to his ear before slapping the seal soundly. The two got into a barking match that could be heard over the roar of the waves.
He found himself spellbound by Lily. He watched her as she looked at the seals at play, a dozen emotions flitting across her face. He discovered several different women all in one. She laughed at the seals’ antics. She frowned when their play became rough. Smiled wistfully at them as if she wished she could be frolicking with them herself.
It moved Jed like nothing ever had. He placed his palm against her cheek and turned her face toward him. Before he could stop himself, he kissed her.
She tasted like the strawberries she often smelled of, only sweeter and softer. Her mouth, lush as any fruit, yielded to him easily. His kiss was tender at first, that of a considerate lover. Then she made one of those womanly sighs from the back of her throat. He lost his head.
He brought an arm about her. He drew her close to him until her breasts brushed against his chest. His tongue sought hers, massaging it slowly, lovingly. He was drowning in an abyss of sheer pleasure. It was the sweetest kiss of his life.
