Cliches.
While each genre has its set patterns and rules to follow, you want to avoid clichés. Also, writing for the wrong reasons. Yes, we all want to be the next big popular author and there are always exceptions, but you have to write because you love it; because chances are you’ll be doing it for twenty years before you’re ever really noticed, and that’s IF you’re ever really noticed.
So if you set your goals too high very early on the disappointment can prove to be too much and you risk walking away from writing for long periods, and those are the necessary years of practice that get you the very success you’re longing for.
