Author Kimball Fisher
He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities (with minors in English, Asian Studies, and Japanese), and a Master of Organizational Behavior degree from Brigham Young University. He and his amazing wife Reenie live in Portland, Oregon, where they have seen pheasants, coyotes, and a bobcat in their own backyard.
I was born in Fort Huachuca, Arizona (honest!) and grew up mostly in Salt Lake City, Utah. I've lived in Japan, Ohio, Illinois, and Washington, but have the longest roots in Portland, Oregon (20+ years), which I consider to be my home.

My book is FINDING THE BABY JESUS: A short story about how recovering a long-lost carving changed a boy's Christmas. If you don't count the title in my thirty words I'd say: " A touching story about a boy who finds a carving that everyone thought had been lost the year his Grandmother died and discovers that some presents are better than skateboards." If I have to count the title I'd say: "A short read-aloud Christmas book about family and giving."

Is this book part of a series?I'm working on an adventure fantasy for middle-grade readers called THUNDERBIRD FEATHER. It's about a thirteen-year-old boy searching for his heritage in the vein of a Native American themed Percy Jackson and the Olympians. A preview of the first chapter is included in FINDING THE BABY JESUS. I'm planning it to be the first of a four-book series.

And how long have you been writing?I was inspired to write FINDING because my sweetheart and I had to abandon a cherished tradition of reading Christmas stories out loud each week in December. We had difficulty finding meaningful ones short enough to complete in a single sitting if we had wiggly kids visiting. Now we have one (a short story--not a wiggly kid). Although FINDING is my first work of fiction, I'm a best-selling business book author with five books out there (four published by McGraw-Hill and 1 with a smaller house). I published my first book in 1999.

I had the title stuck in my head before I started the book and the cover design is by Joshua Kirby. Didn't he do an awesome job?

FINDING is my first Indie book. I love my publishers and couldn't have done what they did to secure an international audience for my business books, but a short Christmas story doesn't really suit the traditional publishing model very well.

Lots. One I'd really recommend is my friend Matt Kirby. His ICEFALL just won the Edgar and it is beautifully written. It's a great book for families.

More often than my sweetheart is comfortable with. Lots of times I'll wake up early and dart downstairs to my laptop to capture an idea before it fades.

It's vanilla all the way. One of the reasons my wife married me is that I give all the chocolate that comes my way to her.
