Being the frizzy-haired tomboy with buck teeth gave me a slight case of shyness as a kid. A colorful imagination meant escape and adventure at the drop of a hat. Over the years I learned that the insecurities I carried around were a waste of time. I still prefer a football game to a manicure any day of the week. That indispensable imagination has found its way into my writing providing a sense of joy and a true purpose.
What is your favorite quality about yourself? I am pretty low key. It takes a lot to ruffle my feathers. With three little ones, ages seven and under this is really beneficial for my sanity.
What is your least favorite quality about yourself? I am terribly impatient. I’m often too hasty and end up regretting my choices. Having the patience of a Jedi is a very important quality for a writer. It is something I struggle with; but I’m working on it.
What are you most proud of accomplishing so far in your life? I don’t know if this counts; but being a mom is the best thing I have done and will ever do. No other job could worry me into insomnia, make me smile from ear to ear, and cause my heart to burst with pride. My kids are the bee’s knees!
What genre are you most comfortable writing? Fantasy, I don’t see myself writing anything else at this point. It is my necessary escape from reality. I think in fantasy; all of my ideas for stories are fantasy. I think I’m too awkward for romance and I don’t’ have the attention span for history. I’m too much of a sissy for horror or paranormal.
How did you come up with the title? The original title was “The Realm of Azra’s Pith”. Azra is a sacred Empyrean spirit in the realm, and Pith means core… there you have it – Azra’s Pith. No one liked that title so I changed it to represent the main character, Alexander. I think it suits the story perfectly.
Can you tell us about your main character? Alexander is the unassuming hero. He has reddish brown curls and deep blue eyes, like his dad. He is tall and lanky with feet too big for his eleven year old body. He is awkward, insecure and incredibly shy. He is also very, very curious and imaginative. His curiosity is what sparks his adventure and sends him on his wild journey through Azra’s Pith. There is also something very special that even he did not discover about himself until mid way through his journey.
How important do you think villains are in a story? In fantasy villains are essential. Something needs to give our hero a hard time. The more evil the better! In the Azra’s Pith Series Imperius, the dark sorcerer is as mean as they come.
Who designed the cover? I just got amazing new covers by Nicole Cardiff. I love, love, love her work!
Who is your publisher? “Alexander Drake’s Extraordinary Pursuit” and “The Return of General Drake” are both available through Wild Child Publishing.
Have you started another book yet? Yes, I have two projects in the works. I’m polishing up book 3 of the Azra’s pith Series (“The Butterfly Curse”). I’ve also started writing another series. Book 1, “The Bandits of Basswood” should be out by the end of May.
Alexander Drake's Extraordinary Pursuit
Meet Alexander Drake, a curious young man living in a drab, oversized mansion with his secretive father. He spent his days playing alone. In the back of his mind he wondered what happened to his mother, and why his father was tight-lipped about the past; but secrets have a way of getting out.
It all started with a stay at his grandmother’s cottage. Alexander found strange clues tucked away in his father’s old bedroom. With a mysterious key and several maps in his pack he set off on an innocent search for answers about his family.
When he discovered a secret passageway the search took a dramatic turn. He suddenly worried about what was searching for him. Alexander was being hunted by a sorcerer from his father’s past. Answers lead to more questions and the journey of his life.
Join Alexander for a thrilling adventure in Azra’s Pith, a place of beauty and magic… but beware—something evil lurks in the shadows.
The Return of General Drake
When Alexander arrived in Verhonia, something went terribly wrong. A dark spell delivered from the mountains of Acadia sent him on a dangerous journey in the middle of the night. As he marched into the mountains, the great city of Verhonia was ambushed and burned to the ground by Roman's army of vicious giant murks.
With the safety of the realm in jeopardy, General John William Drake was asked to come back to Azra's Pith. He swore he would never return. But after discovering his son was under a spell and in the grips of a dark sorcerer, he had no choice.
Things take a wild turn in the mountains, with runaways, a hungry wolf and a mysterious, young empyrean wizard thrown into the adventure. A tight race against time and evil is in full swing. With faith and a little magic, they just might come out on top.
