In 2008, Alecia started working on Talisman Of El, a contemporary young adult fantasy fiction inspired by people who disappeared mysteriously, including, but not limited to, Amelia Earhart and Percy Harrison Fawcett, who went on an expedition in search of an ancient lost city. When she isn’t writing, she enjoys going to the movies, listening to music, and travelling.
Talisman Of El is her first novel. At present, Alecia lives in England, United Kingdom with her family.
What is your favorite quote, by whom, and why? I have a few, but one of my favourite quotes is:
“All the works of man have their origin in creative fantasy. What right have we then to depreciate imagination?” – Carl Jung
I love this quote because it rings true to me, for the greatest works have originated in creative fantasy. Creativity sparks originality which then manifests itself into what we call evolution. To depreciate imagination is to depreciate life.
What is your favorite color? Has to be blue – navy blue, to be exact.
How long have you been writing? I’ve been writing fiction since 2008, but if you include poetry and screenwriting, then I’ve been writing since I was about fourteen. I started in poetry.
Do you intend to make writing a career? I do love to write. I’m not sure how many more ideas for books I’ll be able to churn out, but I hope to return to screenwriting one day, as I have a great passion for movies.
Who is your publisher? Centrinian Publishing Ltd. It’s a family-owned business.
Have you included a lot of your life experiences, even friends, in the plot? Naturally, I think every writer embeds a part of their history into their stories. There are some qualities of my family and friends in my characters as there are experiences in my life that have played a part in the plot. It’s inevitable. The people around me have and will always inspire and influence me, so the plot will reflect some aspects of my life, whether intentionally or not.
How important do you think villains are in a story? I think it’s very important. A story without a villain would flat line. If it were human it would clinically be dead. To create a sense of authenticity in stories, it should reflect life, which includes opposites: light and dark, life and death ... It’s that whole concept of yin and yang, the representation of opposite principles in nature.
Can we expect any more books from you in the future? Well, Talisman Of El is only the first book in the trilogy, so there are two more books to come. I’m not certain what’s in store for me after the trilogy.
What contributes to making a writer successful? Creativity and determination. You also need to believe in your work. Write what you love. Oh, you also need to have a thick skin.
If you could leave your readers with one bit of wisdom, what would you want it to be? Whenever you are searching for an answer to something, you usually find the answer in what it is you are questioning. The answer to the question is the question to the answer.
