Author Interview - SG Rogers

Tour Schedule

Author S.G. Rogers

Originally from Southern California, S.G. Rogers has lived in Asheville, North Carolina and Laurel, Mississippi. She earned her first black belt in taekwondo from martial arts champion Billy Blanks.  Later on, she earned black belts in taekwondo and hapkido from Master Myung Kim. Currently residing in beautiful Savannah, Georgia, S.G. Rogers writes fantasy and romantic fantasy stories.  She’s owned by two hairless cats, Houdini and Nikita, and lives on an island populated by exotic birds, deer and the occasional gator. Although she’s most often drawn to speculative fiction, she’s been known to break away to write other genres.  Tab is her beverage of choice, but when she imbibes, a cranberry vodka martini doesn’t go amiss.

Where were you born and where do you call home? I am a native of Southern California, and spent many years living in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties.  I consider La Jolla, California my hometown.  Currently, I live in Savannah, Georgia.  I went from eucalyptus and orange trees to oaks dripping with Spanish moss.

What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say? My current release is Tournament of Chance. In Tournament, a hunter’s daughter ignites a revolution – in time.

If you gave some of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say? The fairy Towcheez (from Tournament of Chance) always has something on his mind…

Towcheez:  Yeah, what I wants people to know is I was portrayed unfairly, see? Wizards are always stickin’ their big noses in fairy business, and throwin’ their weight around. We got just as much magic as wizards do, and we don’t need no stupid dragon crystals to work it.  The world would be much better off without the likes of them. And for another thing, I was cheated out of my royal title!

Do you prefer ebooks, paperbacks or hardcover? I love my Kindle Fire.  It gives me the opportunity to read books I might not have tried due to the price.  I will confess, however, to buying paperback versions of e-books I’m especially fond of, and visa versa. I rarely buy hardcover any more.

Where do you prefer to buy your books? I’m an online shopper, definitely. I used to enjoy shopping in bookstores, and still do.  But I find the selection much broader online.  In the case of e-books, the gratification is instantaneous. I’m impatient that way.

Have you ever read a book more than once? Absolutely! When I was a kid, I used to wear out the spines. With the electronic versions, however, that’s not a problem any more.

Is there a particular movie that you preferred over the book version? I think the Harry Potter movies “Goblet of Fire” and “Order of the Phoenix” brought a lot to the screen.  On the other hand, I was somewhat underwhelmed with “The Lightning Thief” of the Percy Jackson series (Rick Riordan).

What book do you know that you will never read? Never say never! I was absolutely appalled by the concept behind “Hunger Games,” but I was finally driven to read the trilogy out of marketing curiosity. I was glad I did; I never read anyone more adept at stuffing conflict into every moment than Suzanne Collins. That being said, I doubt I will ever read “Fifty Shades of Grey,” by E.L. James. No story can appeal to everyone.

Are there any new Authors that have grasped your interest and why? I somewhat recently read a few of the Infernal Devices novels by Cassandra Clare.  I liked the books a lot and I’m sure I’ll read more of her work.

Tournament of Chance

In Tournament of Chance, a hunter’s daughter becomes the spark that ignites a revolution—in time.

When a beautiful commoner enters the Tournament of Chance archery competition, her thwarted victory sparks a revolution in the oppressive kingdom of Destiny. Although Heather never believed the legends about the restoration of Ormaria, after three shape-shifting Ormarian wizards awaken from a long magical slumber, she joins their perilous quest to regain the throne. Heather battles vicious predators and angry trolls to free the wizards’ magic, but at a horrendous cost. She is unexpectedly torn from the arms of the man she loves and hurled back in time to fulfill a prophecy not yet written. The ensuing maelstrom tests Heather’s survival skills, wits, and endurance. Will she become an unwritten footnote in history, or can she trust the magic to lead her back to her one true love?
