What Does Freedom Mean To You?

By Pandora Poikilos

What is freedom to me
When all I feel are chains on my leg
Cuts on my heart and a knife in my back
I am but a forlorn shadow as
The chains of grief pull at me
And betrayal shreds me one piece at a time

What is freedom to me
When you do not see
What you have done
When you live your life
In the illusions of joy
And in the delusion of perfection

What is freedom to me
When I am not accepted
Because of your act to me
When I cannot sing
Because you have taken my voice
And thrown away my soul

What is freedom to me
When I must be invisible
So you are happy
When I must give
So you can take
And silent I must always be

So, I ask you again
What is freedom to me
When I was given to you
As a gift to treasure
But you tore at me with hate
Instead of touching me with love

i like the poem it seem a little dark but there is the light of a candle there called love. i like it. god bless

The poem is dark, but necessarily so as it's the dark side of freedom that is so often put away because it's not as pleasant as the light. Very poignant.

To the point as usual and very direct. You never stop to amaze me. :)

A bit dark, but I did like the poem. You had a interesting way of saying it. Thank you.

This poem reminded me of a poem by Francois Villon, a poet, thief and vagabond ('La ballade des pendus"). Just like your poem, it is very dark. Maybe, freedom is what made Francois Villon become a poet, when everything should have led him to be just a thief.
Thanks again for featuring my blog.

Very emotional. Poetry is too revealing for me to write. I admire you.

A very moving poem and an intriguing twist on the 'Treasures in Your Life' concept: there are always things that we should treasure that we do not.
