Cover - Very apt to the storyline. It isn't a nude statue, the shroud that covers the middle portion appears to reflect the little bits of ourselves that we keep from the world. In this case, Paul Tobit exposes himself and yet, tries to conceal a lot of what he is feeling.
Formatting / Appearance - Neat and each paragraph is well spaced out. No complaints here.
Content - To say that Laura Lee is an excellent writer is an understatement. Her words are poetic, and as her characters bare their soul you become engrossed in their journey. Paul appears torn and unwilling but has suffered such an tremendous loss that love in any place is nothing else but love. Plain and simple. Ian comes across as a damaged soul. Rough around the edges but when nurtured, is capable of love. Isn't this true for most of us?
What I liked - I loved the conflicts the book raised. Church, homesexuality, family, relationships. These are all themes we deal with everyday. Sometimes we too reach out to people who turn out different from our expectations of them. This isn't your usual passionate romance story, it is a story about life and one I am sure many others have experienced.
What I didn't like - There were bits of Paul that came across as needy. Very small bits. But then, I have not experienced loss like his so maybe I am just not able to relate to these emotions.
Rating - 5 / 5 stars.
Disclosure - I received a complimentary copy from the author which did not affect my honest opinion.
