Free Danner
Genre – Literary Fiction
Rating – R
4.4 (8 reviews)
Free until 08 October 2012
Comparable to 320 printed pages this coming-of-age novel for adults borders on the edgy side, as in dark humor with off-beat characters, some not-so-likable and others downright despicable. As for Danner, he's the go-to guy readers will either love or hate or love to hate. Free Danner really is free, after spending ten years in Juvy for what the judge called an unspeakable act and Danner considered one of mercy. Now he's determined to find the dad who doesn't know he exists. One thing's for sure: this is not The Maury Povich Show; it's Danner's. And he figures everybody's out to screw him, especially the big shot who hired him as a hit-man-in-training. So what's a guy to do?

The right thing, but Danner has a problem distinguishing right from wrong. Free Danner is eleven when his party-girl mom sends him to live with her parents on their Southern Illinois farm. The generation gap proves harder on the rebellious city boy than his grandparents and soon results in a tragedy so horrific no one could've predicted it. Fast forward to Danner at twenty-two, by-passing those years he spent in the juvenile system and then some. He locates his mom Lark in St. Louis and demands she name the clueless dad.

Lark's not sure but with Danner's not-so-gentle persuasion, she comes up with three possibilities. Danner's search for his dad and a better life takes him on a crisscross journey to Las Vegas, Southern California, and the Florida Panhandle. Most of the off-beat characters he encounters along the way either wind up dead or wanting Danner out of their lives. But these people don't know the real Danner or what being free means to him. Fans of the dysfunctional-family novels by Pat Conroy will enjoy FREE DANNER as will fans of the movie, WILD TARGET.

Genre – Paranormal

In Katherine Silva's supernatural horror, VOX, the first of a planned quintet in the Monstrum Chronicles, readers follow three protagonists as they try to overcome their own disturbed pasts and their growing uncertainties of the future. Since before man existed, lilitu, the creatures that vampire myths are based on, have reigned in the Erebus, a dark shadow realm that exists on a different plane from the world we humans know. Torrent, an Elder lilitu, having committed a multitude of crimes including burning a human city to the ground, is on the run from his sire, a powerful bloodline leader named Citius, who wants nothing more than to see Torrent destroyed.

But there is a method to Torrent's madness. He is on a quest to change time itself; to go back and amend the events that made him into the creature of darkness that he now is. His new attempt at this brings him to England where he meets Eileen, a tragic Opera-soprano who has been newly released from the Kauffman Psychiatric Institute. Having lost her husband in a gruesome incident eight months ago, Eileen is clutching to a thread of promise that the future will hopefully hold something better for her. But when she returns to her home in the rural English countryside, she finds not serenity; but a new terror. Similarly in the United States, Sean, a high school English teacher, has begun hearing strange voices.

On a trip to the hospital to get evaluated, he is intercepted by a lilitu Councilman, Reid, who saves him from an attack by the obscure group, Spiros, Incorporated. The Councilmen, judges of lilitu law in the Erebus, have been informed of a plot by Spiros that aims to forever alter lilitu society with damaging repercussions for the human race. When Sean's girlfriend is taken by Spiros, Sean resolves to get her back, no matter what the cost will be to his own life or that of his new associates. As each character's story weaves into another with twists of betrayal, sacrifice, and murder, each of them will uncover a darker side of themselves in order to get what they seek and through their ordeals, discover what it truly means to live.
